
Marvin Bloos Q.C.
Has practiced Criminal law for over 28 years. He is a senior member of
Beresh Cunningham with offices in
Edmonton and Grande Prairie, Alberta, and restricts
his practice to criminal conviction and sentence appeals. His appellate practice also
includes extradition, professional disciplinary appeals and Charter-of-Rights litigation. He offers appellate agency and consulting services
in on-going criminal and civil appeals and provides specialized research and
advice concerning difficult legal problems or Charter-related trial and appeal matters.
Marvin, a graduate of Queen's University and the University of Alberta, enjoys a strong
reputation as appellate counsel and is one of a very few criminal law practitioners who
has a Master's degree in Criminal law. He has appeared thousands of times on trial or
appeal matters in the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court
of Appeal, the Courts of Appeal in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan and the Federal
Court of Canada. Marvin is an editor and contributor to The
Criminal Appeals Law Reporter, has had articles published in other legal journals, and has taught
Advanced Criminal Law at the University of Alberta.
Called upon regularly to speak at criminal-law meetings, classes and seminars, Mr. Bloos is a member
of several national and provincial committees concerning criminal law, appellate practice and
law/practice technology issues. Mr. Bloos is also the immediate past Chair of the Canadian Council of
Criminal Defence Lawyers and of the Alberta Criminal Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. Bloos is fully computerized and was the first Defence counsel in Canada to present
and argue a fully "electronic" appeal. He has gathered a strong team of very skilled,
high-quality research associates to assist him with his work and legal research. Together
with the other lawyers in his office he has established a broad network of forensic professionals who are available to provide expert legal, scientific, medical,
and related assistance with particular issues that may arise on matters with which Mr. Bloos
is engaged.
